Soar Unafraid, Learning to Trust No Matter What

I met Jo when she was riding a tandem with her husband in the MS150, a fundraising event for the National MS Society in Orange County, California, for which I served as Vice President. She wore a sign on her back that read—“Thanks for Riding, I Have MS.” My mom has MS and I was instantly drawn to Jo.

We grew to know each other, and I thought I knew what Jo had overcome in her life. But after reading Soar Unafraid, I felt I like I was getting to know another Jo, a Jo who had been through more than I had ever known. I am inspired by Jo’s triumphs and her unwavering faith. She has had everything thrown at her to shake that faith and she never falters. Her life is a testament to all those who are challenged with obstacles. Jo’s deep faith, courage and perseverance are a lesson for all of us.

After finishing Soar Unafraid I couldn’t get that sign out of my head—“Thanks for Riding, I Have MS.” It’s just like Jo…she faces the challenge and then shows gratitude to those around her. I am better for knowing Jo and understand so much more after reading her story.
